Tory Target #4
Martin Linton, Battersea, Balham & Wandsworth
As someone who has always thought we have got to completely transform the way we pay for politics, we have reached a spectacularly low ebb. Tory Party campaigning is being funded and directed by a man who avoids paying his fair share.

David is determined to hold his “super marginal” and has been joined in his campaign by teams of local volunteers aged from 9 to 90. Local support for the best MP we’ve ever had is proving fantastic – but we need all the help we can if David is to beat Goliath.

Sam Townend, Bristol North West
Bristol North West is high on the list of target seats for the Conservatives and the only one in Bristol they have any realistic chance of winning. That is why David Cameron chose the day after the budget to visit. It is also why since 2007 the Tories have been funnelling £10,000s into the constituency.

Lord Ashcroft has bankrolled the Tory campaign practically single handedly. His money has paid for a full time organiser for the last two years and has flooded our area with Tory leaflets. If this wasn’t enough my opponent is a multi-millionaire in her own right and is outspending us on every front.

Simon Burgess, Brighton Kemptown
After three terms incumbent MP Des Turner is retiring, and Simon Burgess is the Labour and Co-operative candidate defending a notional 1,800 majority against a wealthy Tory opponent and a Conservative Association that was receiving Ashcroft funding as far back as 2005.

In his response to a letter from me, Tory candidate for South Swindon Robert Buckland has revealed that his campaign has received funding from Lord Ashcroft, the disgraced Tory donor. Mr Buckland admitted that his campaign has received financial support from
the Tory Party Marginal Seats Fund that is bank-rolled by Lord Ashcroft, who does not pay full tax in the UK.

I have been the MP for South Dorset for 9 years – the only Labour MP in the history of this seat and the only gain from the Tories so far this century! This election in South Dorset will be crucial. It’s a tight, straight fight between me and the Tories.

Andrew Pakes, Milton Keynes North
Ashcroft funding and glossy election materials have become a common feature in Milton Keynes over the last five years. The local Tory association received over £25,000 alone from Bearwood Holdings in the immediate period before the last election.

Broxtowe was always Conservative up to 1997 and it’s been a target for them for a long time. A few years ago, Lord Ashcroft and his team identified it with Gedling as twin priorities: the two seats are in outer Nottingham and the only marginals in Nottinghamshire.

At the last general election we fought a hard fight and held Burton against all odds – the Tories spent more money during the short campaign in Burton then any other seat in the country. Now it is time to repeat the feat.

Our fight relies on the hard work and dedication of a local army of volunteers and supporters. Our fantastic campaign headquarters is up and running and a hive of activity. With more funding we can concentrate on targeting our key message to key voters.

Gordon Prentice has been at the forefront of the campaign to expose Lord Ashcroft’s UK tax status, something which bore fruit when his freedom of information request compelled Ashcroft to reveal himself as a non-dom.

In the reconstituted seat of Westminster North, Karen Buck MP has a tough fight on her hands against a well-financed local Conservative Association.

When it comes to funding, last week my Tory opponent paid for a wraparound on the local free paper. It cost £2,500. I’ve been frantically fundraising for almost three years, but after paying for election addresses our money tin contains little more than milk bottle tops.

The Tories are running a well funded campaign with direct mail from the conservative leadership being delivered once a week and an all voter telephone canvass completed in just two days.

This seat is a classic North West Labour marginal that we need to hold on May 6th. And it is a straight Labour-Tory contest, although the Lib Dem candidate is busy spreading typical lies about the hospital and about previous election results in Warrington.

Pudsey is a marginal seat that we can hold at the general election. With a majority of just below 5000 (due to some unkind boundary changes) we are Tory target seat number 97. Electoral Calculus has the Tories winning by only 722 votes – your support can make a massive difference and help keep Pudsey Labour.

Tory Target #78
James Lewis, Elmet and Rothwell
We have seen the direct mailings and glossy leaflets that are pouring in on almost a weekly basis and now is the time for Labour supporters who oppose this purchase of the election from a non-UK taxpayer to sign up and make a donation, however small, to help us take our message to people in Elmet and Rothwell.

As a marginal seat, the Tories are gunning for Gloucester and over the last few months and over the last few months we’ve been inundated with Tory literature, from glossy magazine-style localised leaflets to newsletters.

Glenda Jackson, Hampstead and Kilburn
Glenda Jackson has an excellent record of eighteen years’ service as an MP. She has stood up for her constituents and voted for what she believes to be the right thing to do, often leading her to defy the whips in parliament.

The slogan of the American War of Independence was ‘No Taxation without Representation’. I think the people of Sefton Central have every right to say no representation without taxation.

The significance of Ashcroft goes much further than the money he is currently putting into the Tory Party. Far more important is the way he has used his financial clout over almost a decade to create the databases, structures and organisation on which the current campaign is being run.

Alan Whitehead, Southampton Test
It’s hard to think of a bigger contrast between what the Tories are saying on their glossy leaflets, and what they are saying to their own members when they don’t think anyone else is looking.

Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Central and Acton
Ealing Central and Acton is an important Conservative target in the coming general election. It has seen a huge influx of Ashcroft money.

Dan Norris, North East Somerset
Ultra-marginal North East Somerset forms one of the closest and most exciting two-horse races between Labour and the Tories anywhere in the country.
